Ribosomes- small, dark-staining organelles composed of proteins and a variety of RNA called rRNA
-Free ribosomes make soluble proteins
-membrane bound ribosomes synthesize proteins
Endoplasmic reticulum- extensive system of interconnected tubes & parallel membranes enclosing fluid-filled cavities
-Rough ER- studded with ribosomes
- manufactures all proteins secreted from cells
-Smooth ER- continuation of the RER and has tubules arranged in a looping network
Golgi apparatus- consists of stacked and flat membranous-like sacs associated with swarms of tiny membranous vesicles.
-"traffic director" for proteins
-modifies, concentrates and packages proteins and lipids made at the rough ER
