Major Leaders in asylum/prison reform
One major leader in this reform was Dorothea Dix. She sent a report of what she had seen to the Massachusetts legislature who made a law to make the the jails better. By 1845-1852 she convinced 9 southern states to make hospitals for the people who were mentally sick. Dorothea's prison reforms stressed to rehabilitate and treat the people in the prisons to make them better people and help them have a better position in society.
