Abolition/emancipation reform
Abolition is the idea that African Americans were not acceptable. They would harshly criticized by the whites and the only abolitionists were mostly preachers like Charles Finney.
One example of a radical abolitionist is William Lloyd Garrison. He was an editor and made his own newspaper called "the Liberator".
Garrison founded the new anti-slavery society in 1832. People who opposed abolition hated him and some who supported abolition still opposed him when he attacked the churches and the government for not ending slavery.
In 1829, "The Appeal to the Colored Citizens of the World" was published by David Walker who was a free black. He told the blacks that they should fight for their freedom and rights and inspired them to stand up. But most of them accepted slavery and were too scared to rise up.
Some blacks like Frederick Douglas were stopped by their owners from learning how to read and right because then he wouldn't become a slave. So, he studied even harder so that he didn't have to live that lifestyle.
