Asylum/Prison Reforms
In 1831, Alexis de Tocqueville observed punished and isolated prisoners. Alexis concluded that though the United States offers freedom, the prisons and asylums abuse their power that they have.
Reformers took this situation up quickly and soon Dorothea Dix decided to join this reform. Dorothea found out that the jails were holding mentally ill people.
