Before the Abolition, women used to work in their homes and they would help make clothes and things for their families. As Abolition started to increase they became more independent and decided to work in textiles and mills. Women who worked in mills were usually single farm girls who lived in New England. They made up most of the workforce even though they had harsh curfews and the conditions were terrible. By the 1830s the conditions for the female workers got even worse.
