Cutaneous, Mucous, and Serous Membranes
The cutaneous membrane is human skin. It is an organ system that consists of a keratinization stratified squamous epithelium, which is attached to a layer of connective tissue. It is exposed to air and dis a dry membrane. The mucous membrane lines body cavities that open to the exterior. This would be the digestive, respiratory, and urogenital tracts. These are wet or moist membranes. They are adapted for absorption or secretion. Serous membranes are moist membranes in the closed ventral body cavities. They are made of simple squamous epithelium. The clear serous fluid that is make from these membranes is used to libro care the facing surfaces of the parietal and visceral layers.
