Homeostasis
Homeostasis is the ability to maintain relatively stable internal conditions even while the outside world is constantly changing. It does not mean "unchanging" or static, but rather the word indicates a dynamic state of equilibrium, or balance, in which internal conditions vary, but always within relatively narrow limits. Maintaining homeostasis can be extremely difficult. Every organ plays a different role in maintaining the constancy of the internal environment. It is important that adequate blood levels of vital nutrients are present, and heart activity and blood pressure must be constantly monitored and adjusted so that the blood is propelled to all body tissues. Chemical, thermal, and neutral factors act and interact in complex ways to hopefully help maintain a steady homeostasis.
