Lysosomes and Peroxisomes
Lysosomes are the site of intracellular digestion. They are spherical membranous organelles containing digestive enzymes. They are also large and found in phagocytes, or cells that dispose of invading bacteria and cell debris. Lysosomes work best in acidic conditions. They are called acid hydrolases. They also contain H+s. Peroxisomes are where enzymes detoxify a number of toxic substances. This is where hydrogen peroxide is broken down. Microtubules support the cell and give it shape. Peroxisomes are membranous sacs containing varieties of powerful enzymes. Their most important function is to neutralize dangerous free radicals, which are highly reactive chemicals with unpaired electrons that scramble the structure of biological molecules.
