REASONS FOR CHANGE
NEED FOR CHANGE
Change can be brought about by external and internal forces. Internal sources of change exist within the organisation itself and often refer to internal pressure to change. It is likely that employees at all levels of the organisation can influence change in some shape or form, e.g. through a request to change shift patterns through to a request to change working practices, relocation of the organisation or the introduction of new products and services. Internal change can also come from changes in leadership or in response to an external source. e.g. demand for a product or service leads to a change in structure or size of a department.
External sources of change originate in the organisation’s environment and there is sometimes very little an organisation can do about the change other than adapt the organisation to manage the change. It is important that employees to understand the implications of these factors on the organisation, e.g. the impact of a new competitor, change in funding (public sector), good PR etc.
