Men in the Revolutionary War
Bernardo de Galvez
Haym Salomon
Marquis de Lafayette
As governor of the Spanish colony of Louisiana, Bernardo de Galvez aided the New England colonists by providing supplies. Galvez and his troops also captured Pensacola for the colonists, ensuring that the British could not attack from the west or the south.
Haym Salomon was a Jewish businessman who sailed from Poland to America in 1772, just before the start of the Revolutionary War. Financially, Salomon gave generously to the war effort. In all, Salomon is said to have loaned the government over $600.000.
Marquis de Lafayette was a French military leader who fought for the colonists during the Revolutionary War. Lafayette pressed King Louis XVI of France to send more supplies to the colonists. He fought in many battles, including the Battle of Yorktown where he kept British General Cornwallis' army pinned, eventually leading to the British surrender.
