Townshend Acts
1767
What were they?
These acts were written by Charles Townshend, a British politician, shortly after the Stamp Act was repealed. They placed even more taxes upon the colonists. Some goods that were taxed because of the Townshend Acts include glass, lead, paints, paper, and tea. Needless to say, the colonists weren't happy when they heard about the Townshend Acts.
Reaction from Colonists
Colonists decided to boycott English goods. The Daughters of Liberty encouraged people to grow their own food and be self-sufficient. This group, started by Abigail Adams, consisted of many women who wanted to help in the fight for colonists' rights.
