THOMAS PAINE
Thomas Paine
Thomas Paine was born in England in 1737. After his wife and child died during childbirth and he lost his job, Thomas Paine met Ben Franklin, who advised him to make the move to America.
Thomas Paine arrived in America in 1774, as tensions between America and England were reaching their peak. He received a job editing the 'Pennsylvania Magazine.'
Paine is most known for his 50-page pamphlet, "Common Sense," printed in early 1776, soon after Lexington and Concord. In this pamphlet, Paine argues that it is common sense that America should demand independence from England.
