Question 3-List organ systems of the body, ID the components, and explain functions
1) Integumentary system- forms the external body covering, such as skin, nails and hair. They protect deeper tissue form damage.
)Skeletal system-Bones and joints. Protects and supports body organs, and provides a framework the muscles use to cause movement.
)Muscular system-i.e. biceps, triceps. Allow manipulation of the environment locomotion and facial expression, produces heat, and maintains posture.
)Nervous system-Fast acting control system, responds to internal and external changes. Examples are the brain, sensory receptor, nerves, and spinal cord
)Endocrine system-Glands secrete hormones that regulate growth, reproduction and nutrient process. These gland include the testis, ovarys, thymus, pancreas etc.
)Cardiovascular system-Blood vessels transport blood carries oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients wastes, etc, heart pumps blood.
)Lymphatic system/immunity-picks up leaked from blood vessels and returns it to blood. Spleen, thoracic duct, red bone marrow, lymph nodes, thymus, and lymphatic vessels are all a part of the lymphatic system/immunity system
)Respiratory system-Keeps blood constantly supplied with oxygen and removes carbon dioxide. Lungs, trachea, bronchus, larynx, pharynx, and nasal cavity are all part of the respiratory system.
)Digestive system-breaks down food into absorbable units that enter the blood for distribution to body cells, indigestible food stuffs are eliminated as feces. The large and small intestine, rectum, anus, stomach, liver, oral cavity cavity, and esophagus are all part of the digestive system
)Urinary system-eliminates nitrogenous wastes from the body, regulates water, electrolyte and acid base balance of the blood. Kidney, ureter, urinary bladder, and urethra, are all part of the urinary system
)Male and Female reproductive system-Overall function is to produce off spring, testes produce sperm, ovaries produce eggs for sperm to fertilize in. Penis testes scrotum, prostate gland, ductus deferens, for males, mammary glands in breasts, vagina, uterus, ovary, and uterine tube for females
