Chapter 3
Question 26-Discuss the structure and function of the mitochondria.
The mitochondria is a sausage looking membrane organelle. They are in two membranes with the general structure being a plasma membrane. While the outer membrane is smooth, the inner membrane is folded inward, and forms shelflike cristae. In cells that are alive, they move and change shape all the time. The provide the energy, which is in the form of ATP. This energy is for the cells activities. The liver and kidney have lots of mitochondria because the organs cells are constantly working hard.
