Why is water important for maintaining body homeostasis?
-water has a high specific heat capacity which means it absorbs/releases large amounts of heat before changing temperature itself. This prevents sudden changes in temperature from random external factors. Additionally, water has a high heat of vaporization which is very beneficial when we sweat since as the perspiration evaporates, large amounts of heat are removed from the body , keeping it at homeostasis.
Why are salts crucial for maintaining body homeostasis?
-salts are crucial since the dissociate in water into their component ions and the electrolyte properties of sodium/potassium are essential for impulse transmission and muscle contraction.
