Critical thinking.......
2.) Some antibiotics act by binding to certain essential enzymes in the target bacteria.
A. How might these antibiotics influence chemical reactions controlled by the enzymes? They work by taking away the active sites the substrate would normally bind to on the bacteria, thus making less reactions.
B. What is the effect on the bacteria? On the person taking the prescription?
The anticipated effect on the bacteria is that after the antibiotic binds to the bacteria, killing it, thus the person taking the antibiotics gets better.
3.) A women is admitted to the hospital and her blood says she has servere acidosis
A.) define pH and note the normal pH of blood.
pH= the hydrogen ion concentration and the pH of blood is suppose to be between 7.35-7.45
B.) why is severe acidosis problematic?
Because if your blood gets too acidic, major bodily functions will shut down eventually. If the pH of your blood varies by more than a tenth of a unit, it can be fatal.
