17 One Length Technique

One Length Cutting Procedure

✔️Section hair into 6 basic sections

✔️Check Client’s Body Position: Raise chair to where perimeter will be at

your chest level.

▪️Hint: Make sure client’s legs are not crossed. Crossed legs tilt body, making it harder to cut hair evenly.

Cut/Establish the Guideline (Cut Sections 1 and 2)

✔️Center self directly behind client & position head forward to create solid plane (the neck)on which tocut.

✔️Take out clips securing sections 1 and 2.

▪️Note: Make sure hair is consistently wet or dry as you cut.

✔️Use fine teeth of comb for max tension, comb hair into gravity and at 0°

✔️Start @ center of nape, use spine of comb to secure a portion of section (a little from each of sections 1 and 2) against the nape of neck.

✔️Hold scissors in secondary position and parallel to section parting, cut hair.

✔️Repeat cutting on right,return to center & cut from center to client’s left.

✔️Check balance in mirror & make corrections before continuing.

Cut Sections 3 and 4

✔️Position the client’s head upright & drop sections 3 and 4.

✔️Subsection hair if you cannot see the guideline clearly.

✔️Comb hair into gravity, follow w/scissors held in secondary position.

✔️Secure @ center back by placing of teeth of comb thru hair & against neck.

✔️Using secondary scissors position, cut to the guideline @ 0°.

✔️Cut from center to right, and then from thecenter to left.

✔️Check balance in the mirror and make corrections before continuing.
