04 Client Preparation
Draping
✔️Seat client and have them remove eyeglasses, jewelry, etc. and place these items in a safe place that can be carried to the shampoo bowl.
✔️Turn down the client’s collar.
✔️Spread cape evenly over front of seated client. Bring neck of cape near client’s neck, but do not fasten it.
✔️Place one edge of a towel lengthwise across the top of client’s head. The back edge should fall at the client’s neck.
✔️Hold 2 corners at the back of the towel with your forefingers and thumbs.
✔️Cross ends over each other, under the client’s chin.
✔️Holding towel in place with subordinate hand, place neck of cape over towel.
✔️Fasten the cape in the nape area.
✔️Check towel position to be sure that cape does not come in contact with skin.
✔️Distribute the rest of towel evenly over the shoulders.
✔️Be sure cape is not too tight, as this can cause discomfort to the client.
✔️Check that cape completely covers client and extends over back of chair.
✔️After shampooing and conditioning hair, remove the towel and apply a paper neck strip to keep the cape from touching the skin.
