18 Graduated Technique
Graduated Cutting Procedure
✔️Section hair into 6 basic sections.
✔️If client always wears a side part, angle part from front hairline to center crown. This side part connects with the back center part.
✔️Check clients body position & raise chair so perimeter is at your chest level.
✔️Cut/Establish guideline: Cut Sections 1 & 2 as done in one-length technique
Cut Sections 3 and 4
✔️Position the client’s head upright.
✔️Drop section 3, make subsection approximately 1" parallel to perimeter.
✔️Repeat for section 4
✔️Place end of comb in parting of subsection,hold in place w/thumb.
✔The degree comb lifts from head is the correct elevation for cutting
✔️Pick up portion of subsection @ center of back+sm portion of guide
✔️Bring hair to comb elevation & hold T to subsection parting.
✔️Recheck elevation
✔️Using primary scissors position, cut hair to guideline.
✔️Work from center-right,then center-left, repeat finding correct elevation & cutting to guide for remainder of sections 3 and 4.
✔️There's no guideline @ ear. Continue back perimeter through to front hairline. Hold hair w/light tension in wide teeth of comb. Elevation right over ears=0°.
✔️Check for balance.
Cut Sections 5 and 6
✔️Drop sections 5 and 6.
✔️Use wide teeth of comb, distribute hair evenly over crown.
✔️W/head upright, continue using comb elevation to graduate the hair.
