12 Pincurling: Flat & Stand-Up
The amount of mobility created by different stem lengths inflat pin curls varies as follows:
▪️No-stem rest entirely above pick-up line & create curls w/min mobility.
▪️Half-stem rest 1/2 on & 1/2 off pick-up line more mobility than no-stem.
▪️Full-stem(long-stem curls) rest entirely below pick-upline &create max mobility.
▪️Movement is created by placement of pin curl.Example, to create a style that flows to right, create a shaping & place curls in that direction.
Basic Pin Curl Set Procedure
Prepare the Hair:
✔️Start w/damp or wet hair, apply styling aid for control &distribute it evenly from scalp to ends.
Create Horizontal Shapings
A shaping is a section of hair that's been formed into a
C contour. Alternating C shapings form an S pattern.
✔️Stand straight on to section you are curling.
✔️Form a clockwise shaping by combing hair to 4 o’clock position.
✔️Holding hair in place w/1st 2 fingers, comb same hair to 8 o'clock position.
✔️Continue 4 o'clock &8 o'clock movement until shaping is formed for entire row.
No-Stem On-Base Flat Curls
✔️Begin row of pin curls @ open side of C. Beginning @open end of shaping, carve about a 3/4"section from shaping. Slide tail of comb to ends of hair, while holding shaping @ base.
✔️Protecting shaping w/index finger of other hand, palm comb.
✔️Pick up ends of strand w/thumb &1st 2 fingers of dom hand & use to
ribbon hair, w/o disturbing shaping @ scalp. section is approximately 3/4"
✔️Mold hair into a curl, w/hair ends inside curl, & holding hair close to head. Do not lift, keep it flat while performing the curl.
