Critical Thinking 1 & 2
1. John cannot expect a quick, uneventful recovery, because he injured his cartilage, and cartilage has a weak regenerative capacity, causing fibrosis to aid in replacing the lost tissue, which usually occurs over longer periods of time.
2. The epidermis is more suited for protecting the external surface of the body than the mucosae because the epidermis is firmly attached to a thick layer of connective tissue, and is exposed to the air making it more adapted to the conditions on the external surface than the mucosae, which is only underlain by a layer of loose connective tissue and is adapted for absorption and secretion.
