Water, Salts, and homeostasis:
-Water is the most abundant and important inorganic compound in living material, makes up 60-80 percent of the volume of most living cells. Water helps ensure temperature homeostasis by absorbing and releasing large amounts of heat before changing, preventing sudden changes in temperature caused by external factors.
-Salts are dissolved in water, and then they dissociate into their component ions. All that is left over is water to overcome the attraction between the oppositely charged ions. Since all ions are electrolytes, they conduct an electrical current in solution. The electrolyte properties of sodium and potassium ions are essential for nerve impulse transmission and muscle contraction.
