The membranes involved in pleurisy are the parietal pleura and visceral pleura. Their usual functions are to protect the organs and produce serous fluid so organs can slide without pain. Pleurisy is so painful because inflamed serosa don't produce as much serous fluid, so the friction and dragging is painful.

Thirst is a negative feedback control system because when if you are thirsty and you drink something the thirst goes away, it doesn't snowball and make you even more thirsty.
