Solutions, Colloids, & Suspensions
Solutions are homogeneous mixtures of either solid, liquid, or gas. The substance with the greatest quantity is the solvent, which the solute (substance with less) dissolves in.
Colloids, or emulsions, are heterogeneous mixtures that appear milky and translucent. The particles do not settle, but they scatter light.
Suspensions are heterogenous mixtures with large, visible solutes that will settle out if not shaken or mixed.
Both solutions and colloids have particles that stay evenly spread throughout the solvent. Colloids and suspensions both have particles that do not dissolve into the solvent and are still visible.
