Organ Systems
part 1
There are eleven organ systems in the body: integumentary, skeletal, muscular, nervous, endocrine, cardiovascular, respiratory, digestive, lymphatic, urinary, and reproductive.
The integumentary system is made up of the skin hair and nails. It covers the body and protects against injury to sensitive inner organs. It is where vitamin d is synthesized and where sweat and oil glands are located. Pain receptors are also located here.
The skeletal system is made of bones and joints. The skeletal system supports the body and internal organs. Blood cells are manufactured inside the bones, where minerals are stored.
The muscular system, comprising of all the muscles in the body, allows movement and control of the environment. It controls facial expression, posture, and produces, heat as well.
The lymphatic system is made of the thymus, spleen, lymph nodes, lymphatic vessels, thoracic duct, and red bone marrow. It contains white blood cells which help fight diseases in the body (immune system). It also returns leaked fluid to the bloodstream and disposes of debris.
The respiratory system is made of the nasal cavity, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchus and the lungs. It provides oxygen to the bloodstream and removes carbon dioxide through gaseous exchanges in the lungs.
