In the nineteenth chapter, Jonas finds out about Rosemary. Rosemary was the Receiver in training ten years ago. The Giver tells him the story of his failure of her training. Rosemary was a sweet little girl that was selected just as Jonas was. On her first day, she sat in the exact chair as Jonas did. The Giver tells Jonas that he loved her and he also loves him very much. He realized that Rosemary was hurt when she received her first memory of pain. The Giver then only wanted to give her happy memories. She refused and told him that it was her duty to recieve all memories. She was right so he had to give them to her. At five weeks, Rosemary applied for release. It was too much for her. Since they were not in her rules, thay had to release her. The Giver watched the video of the release. In the video, Rosemary had asked to inject herself and the Giver couldn't watch. It was painful for him.
