In this chapter, Jonas is afraid of starvation. First, they see a fox in which this is their first time. Jonas recognizes the surroundings called jungle. When they see the fox, they just stare at each other until the fox just walked away. The Jonas felt that they were at Elsewhere. He then saw snow. They were both freezing cold. Jonas strapped Gabriel against his chest to keep warm. Then a big hill came up and Jonas couldn't walk up it. He and Gabriel were both starving and freezing. Jonas no longer cared for his survival, he cared for Gabriel's.
