Gracefulness of lecture delivery and demonstration mattered for Nollet and his amateur audiences. All of Nollet’s teaching apparatuses were made in accordance with the furniture style of Louis XV. Painted in red and black pigment and highlighted with gilding, these lavish instruments harmonized with the decoration of the Rococo interior. The aesthetics of instruments, interior decorations, and the printed image coalesced into one in the unified appearance of the illustrations in Nollet’s book. In his published course program on experimental philosophy, Nollet included a catalogue of the necessary teaching instruments, with altogether 345 items.
