Augsburg was one of the leading European centers for the manufacture of decorative metalwork and precision instruments, including clocks, in the 17th century. Stahel, whose initials, "A S," are stamped within a shield on the backplate of this clock, worked in Augsburg, like his father, who was also a clockmaker.
