Unlike other scenes of experimentation with a demonstrator and onlookers, this illustration displays instruments in a cabinet. The simple cabinet with an ornate top that frames the image is an abbreviated version of the more elaborate display in the frontispiece to the same book. Nollet conflates the space of experimentation with that of instrument collection, making the latter an integral part of his pedagogical practice.
