In order to facilitate the transfer of supplies from ducks (amphibious craft) and lorries from the mulberry harbour to the hinterland, a road and depot was built on the right of the old access road to the beach. They used the beach pebbles as a sub strata. That is now the two lane road used by all through traffic. The field which the floating pontoon shares with the heifers is where the goods transfer took place.
The Americans also made a second road (one way) to allow ducks to come back down from the village to the port so as not to clog up the main road . It was adjacent to the present house grounds, steeply winding upwards passed the Jeannot property and behind the Mont d'Olive to the Hammel du Pretre road. (There were plans post war to make this into a pedestrian access from the village above to the beach. Thus far nothing has become of it.) The space between the Jeannot property and the beach house marks the remnants of this road. (See also 2 screens on.)
