The girls also spent time with 3 sisters next-door but one who were about the corresponding ages. The family who owned the property were called Adam. Every summer the Fromond sisters were invited for a formal afternoon tea and had to get properly dressed for the occasion. Blanche talked fondly of the Ile Flottante which was always served and it was Marguerite's favourite dessert. Madame Adam taught Marguerite to swim and indeed the six girls often bathed together.
After the war the Adam family, who lived in Bretteville l'Orgueuilleuse, never rebuilt at Vierville. (In 1945, when Marguerite cycled from Bayeux to Caen to attend university classes, she used to break the journey with them.)
The eldest Adam daughter married an electrician, the second a doctor and the youngest a reforestation nurseryman.
NEIGHBOURS
Vierville offered a lot of free unsupervised time for the young sisters. After their first communion each girl was given a bicycle. Blanche couldn't wait to join her sisters! Some excursions involved necessary chores like fetching milk from a farm on the road to Grandcamp and riding to the weekly market at Trevieres for provisions.
