In Vierville, the Germans were preparing their beach defences. The chalet grounds are between sectors WN70 and WN71 (WN= widerstandneste) see the plans for the fortification below. There was a line of "belgian gates" positioned on the beach at about 250 metres from the high-water level, these had anti-tank mines attached to them, -the horses in the photo are dragging one into place. Then 25 metres further in there was a line of staves or ramps dug into the sand also mined, then about 130 metres from the digue a row of "hedgehogs" anti-tank devices. There was a roll of barbed wire all along the stones at the top of the beach. An anti tank wall blocked the road going up to the village at the bend and there was more barbed wire.
