Dog Green was the allied code name for the attack plan in front of the chalet. (900 metres along the sea front from bend in the road from the village.)
The plan involved several successive waves of invasion, but the initial plan for the advance parties was as follows.
The first battalion of the 116 Regiment, companies A,B,C and D each with 200 men with tanks and engineers were to break through the beach obstacles, get up the road to the village and regroup just south of Vierville on the road to Formigny in order to press on to the interior.
Timing was of the essence. The first men were to land when the tide was about 300 metres from high tide, so that engineers could clear mines and obstacles before the tide covered them and then the rising water could bring the troops closer inland and less exposed to German fire. This meant they had about half an hour to do the job.
It was thought that it would take about 2 hours to regroup on the road to Formigny.
